Our Graduate Programs
In class. At work. See the difference.
Participants of TLI-administered programs are fast-paced engineering, science, and technology-related professionals who don't have time to wait or waste! They want new knowledge and skills now that they can use at work and for their careers.
IN CLASS. Experience an active learning environment. Students and professors share their knowledge and compare their experiences. Together, they explore and analyze current and emerging topics and issues. The focus is on applied learning with theory brought to life through real-world applications. Both the students and the faculty are experienced professionals in their fields. Learning grows exponentially in this type of graduate program environment.
AT WORK. Take what you learn in class and use it on the job. Class discussions and assignments come alive as students apply their newly gained knowledge and skills at work. Improve work processes. Bring a new perspective to solving a business problem. Apply new technologies to existing practices. Also, take your work to class for analysis, discussions, or use in course assignments. The dynamics between classroom experiences and work are key to the success of our students.
For those seeking technology-focused management and leadership skills, the Master of Science in the Management of Technology (MOT) provides tremendous opportunities to gain wider and deeper skills to manage and lead in technology-intensive environments. The Master of Science in Infrastructure Systems Engineering (ISE) is ideal for civil engineers or those in related fields who need the latest in infrastructure management to do their jobs more effectively and to meet the challenges of the 21st century. The Master of Science in Security Technologies (MSST) (beginning in June 2010) will offer current and aspiring analytical and risk management policymakers and innovators the tools to meet a growing demand in business and industry.
While each program has its unique focus and curriculum content, they share common philosophies. The MSMOT and MSISE:
- are geared toward working professionals,
- meet on alternating Fridays and Saturdays,
- offer services designed to help busy professionals, and
- can be completed in four semesters -- with summers off.
The MSST will meet three evenings per week (beginning June 2010), includes a mix of working professionals and full-time students, and can be completed in 14 months.
The Technological Leadership Institute (formerly the Center for the Development of Technological Leadership) has administered graduate programs since 1990, when it first launched the Master of Science in the Management of Technology (MOT) program. In 2000, the Master of Science in Infrastructure Systems Engineering (ISE) was launched by the institute and its program partner, the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Minnesota. In June 2010, TLI's newest program, the Master of Science in Security Technologies (MSST) will commence classes in collaboration with eight other University colleges and centers.
